I've always been fascinated with relationships of all kinds. Friendships, family dynamics, romantic, professional. The bond we have with another person or group of people, the constructs that build the bond or break it. I've lived long periods of my life where the people around me completely shaped my participation in the world - where rejection has led me to an island of self doubt, where friendship restored the color in my world, where family has stretched my heart across a home, a state, an ocean. The way the people who surround us - whether it be locally, digitally, socially, domestically, etc - impact and influence us has inspired this series of work. The skeleton of each piece is a community of line based, drawn faces that connect with each other in different ways - sometimes the mouth of one face will be used as the eye of another, because isn't that a way that the perspectives we share work? After the surface is filled with the implied personalities, I start to puzzle the lines together to create shapes. The relationships take form. The composition shifts from a variety of identifiable, individual faces to something that resembles a map, for a mind that often navigates the world through relationships and is curious about the way we shape the people around us.
